LMC, it is that time again. The new issue of Podium! Even better than before, we have a lot of stuff in this newspaper. But before we get to that, we must welcome some new people into Podium. So Welcome Mika, Kiran, and Mickey to the Podium Community. This will be one of the best newspapers, with Podium 2021, Current News, Quiz Time, Ask Podium, Recipes, a product review, The Undercover Guy, An Interview with Hayden Knablein-Greene, USA news, Podium Glossary, then finally, The Contributors. This is quite the newspaper we have today. Also, our Podium Website is FINALLY OUT! After 2 months of work from our website designers, we got our website out. So go into your search bar and type, Podiumnews.org. It's not finished yet, because there is always something new we can add. But it's got the basics done. The interviewee stands there, wondering what is going on. “Can you elaborate on that?” He asks. “No.” Says the voice. “It will ruin everything.” The voice replies, with a hint of worry in his voice. “What will it ruin?” The interviewer asks. “Does it have anything to do with the cursed Podium-” “NEVER SAY THE NAME OF THAT THING.” He shouts at the interviewer. “Woah, sorry man, I didn’t know you were so sensitive about this stuff.” The interviewer replies. “It's okay, it's just a reflex, it did some bad things.” He said. The interviewer replies “Sorry I tuned you out, were you talking about the cursed podiu-'' Then, the security footage goes blank.
Hello and welcome back to Podium Current News. As of writing this, advisories have shifted from their previous goals to speaking of the riots at the US Capitol Building. This was a troubling time for everyone and we hope that everyones okay, even though it was not in person, it still shocks us all that Americans would do that. It is in fact treason. So that happened, but the good news for all you democrats is that Biden did get certified as president and the inauguration is in 7 days. This has probably been one of the most important elections in American history. The reason for this is because everyone thinks that Trump needs to leave office, and most people agree. So, that was current news. Onto the next article!

I haven't seen my friends since march! I miss them so much. I feel like I'm losing all connection. My grades are fine and all so covid didn't really affect them but don't we all need friends? Sure I can FT and text with them but it's not the same.... any advice?

During covid, this is a common problem among all students And I'm sure a lot of other students feel this way but we want you to stay safe so you have to find ways you can hang out with them but still be safe. Unfortunately, everyone is dealing with a sense of isolation. Although FaceTiming might not feel the same, the most important is that you and your family members stay safe. Maybe you can try doing some fun activities over zoom with your friends so you feel more connected. Remember this won't be forever.

I am SO BORED. I have nothing to do and it's so annoying. I have 4 brothers, 2 are younger and two are older. I am the 3rd brother in the family. Right in the middle. So I have to take care of my two younger brothers and joke around with my older brothers at the same time. What do I do? I can't handle taking care of my younger brothers anymore.

Dear Vacation,
Yeah, I get that you're bored, sometimes it’s hard finding something to do that you haven't already done, especially since you can’t go to so many fun places outside. If you have to babysit your younger brothers try making it more fun. If that doesn't work, try communicating to your parent(s) that it feels like there's too much weight on your shoulders, which is unfair. If you're bored hanging out with your little brothers then try to make it more fun for you. You're watching over them so you get a say in why they're going to do. Maybe give them a really fun game so they are occupied while you're free to do something else. (Still watching them of course.) Hope this helps!

New Year's usually is really fun. You know, you get to stay up until 12 AM and stay up later even. But it wasn't fun this year. I'm stressing over school, I have no technology for this year, and my little brother is getting more attention than me. I don’t usually care about the attention, but now it’s just getting out of hand. I got nothing on my Christmas list. Honestly, I'm really mad at my little brother but I still love him to death. What will I do?

Dear Troubled,
I'm sorry you feel that way that must be tough for you. Maybe you can communicate the technical issues to the teachers and communicate to your parents that you feel that you don't get enough attention and it feels unfair that your brother does. Maybe you can do some fun activities with your brother that could involve your parents and attention would go to both of you. It sucks that you didn’t get anything you wanted on your wishlist, but there's always next year. Your little brother doesn't understand what he did wrong and can’t do anything about it. So you have to take matters into your own hand. Maybe try to make a deal with your parents. Like if you do something then they will get you something you really want. You have to communicate with your parents, instead of getting mad. Feel free to message me any time!
Over the holiday season I have been asking my mother for Procreate, an interactive drawing app where you can animate, draw, airbrush and so much more, to get the full potential of this I decided to also get an Apple Pencil, the day I turned it on and started to use procreate I could nonstop, it was so so fun The variety of textures and brushes that you choose from is literally endless, I also took my hand on animating, maybe not my best skill, but I still had a lot of fun! This app is available on iPads and the pocket edition of it is available on iPhones! I would definitely recommend the app to anybody who loves to draw! It might be hard when you start it but eventually, you will get the hang of it and love it!

“Take me downtown,” I say, not caring to fasten my seatbelt.
“Where in downtown?” The cabbie asks with a thick accent.
I reply, “anywhere, and fast.”
“That'll be extra.” My cab driver states
“That’s fine,” I say, moving into a more comfortable position. The driver pulls out onto the street, flying down Fifth Avenue. I pull out my briefcase, remembering the instructions- get the boy and girl, but nothing else -It was strange though, I didn’t remember why I was here, but I did know something was wrong. The cab’s monitor has its volume turned down. I read something in the information banner about a house burning down, but no bodies were found. I felt a jolt in the car, and see traffic continue endlessly down the street. I had to move fast, but why? I decide to ponder the subject later. I tell the cab driver to let me out and give him a tip. Straightening my tie, I walk fast down the street.
Iris
I glance at Zade, his eyes are swollen and tired, I see him peer at me and I look away. I wish I could read his thoughts and talk to him. My back still hurts from this morning, when father was drunk and whipped me with his belt. I look back at Zade, his green eyes study me as he smiles warmly. Zade looks back at our teacher, Miss Honey. I hear her call my name,
“Iris, can you tell me the answer to problem 3?” Zade turns to me, and mouths ‘47’. I stay still for a second, to look as if I’m thinking, and say,
“The answer to problem 3 is 47” Zade grins again, and my stomach flutters. I think about how Zade has two parents. I don’t really remember my mom, but my father says she was very pretty and smart. Father definitely isn’t. He has a scrawny beard, pure black eyes, a crooked nose, and a loudmouth. He always comes home late, drunk and sick, after the twins are asleep. My older sister says that after the freak car accident when mom died, father began drinking and committing small crimes. I was two when that happened and the twins were five months old. When I asked questions about mom, father gets this far away look in his eyes and doesn’t answer. I wish I knew more. I hear the bell ring, and the hall commotion starts. I see Zade coming over to me so I walk a tiny bit slower. “Look in your locker,” he whispers to me, rushing away. I head down the hall, anticipation rising. When I open my locker door, I see a note.
It has only been one week since 2020 ended, and we thought that the cursed year was over, the year was over, but the curse was not. Yesterday Trump-supporting terrorists Invaded the US Capitol building. You would expect that they would be met by high security, but there was only one guard keeping them from getting into the building. Surprisingly they were not met by rubber bullets and tear gas like peaceful BLM supporters were faced with. Guards even let the Trump supporters in.
This is all very scary, but one way you can cope with all of this, COVID, the election, is mindfulness, and organization. I spoke with one of the 7th-grade representatives, Hayden Knablein-Greene, and he said that he can handle his jobs with the organization. Once you know how everything works, where everything goes, and when you need to complete something, you never have to worry about, well, not doing it. Sometimes I meditate, and what works best for me is meditating twice a day, once in the morning and one before bed, this calms me down and helps me focus, and it will most likely help you too. With everything that's going on, you need some form of calm. On to the next section now!
Covid-19 Aftermath Could Spell a ‘Lost Decade’ for Global Economy, World Bank Says
Even before Covid-19, the World Bank had lowered its projections (predictions) for global growth in the 10 years that began in 2020. The pandemic is exacerbating (worsened) that trend, raising the prospect (thought) of a “lost decade” ahead, the World Bank said Tuesday.
Before the pandemic, the bank projected that potential global Economic growth between 2020 and 2029 would slow to a yearly average of 2.1%, from 2.5% in the previous decade, due to the long-term hinder (create difficulties for) in labor productivity. That average has shrunken substantially (majorly) to an average of 1.9% (Economic growth yearly) due to covid-19.
“Unless there is substantial reform (major changes or improvements), we think the global economy is headed for a decade of disappointing growth outcomes,” Ayhan Kose, the bank’s acting vice president for equitable growth and financial institutions, said in an interview.

Democrats Take Senate Control With Georgia Wins
Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock defeated Republicans David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler in Georgia’s two Senate runoffs.The outcome of the high-profile and costly elections will put Democrats in control of both chambers of Congress and influence the scope of President-elect Joe Biden’s legislative agenda (law-full objectives). With Democrats winning both Senate seats in Georgia, the chamber will have a balance of 50-50, enough for their party (Democrats) to secure control there for the first time in six years [if there is a tie in the senate then the vice president (Kamala Harris) breaks the tie for which party will have senate control].
PRO-TRUMP MOB FORCES WAY INTO CAPITOL
U.S. Capitol Police put the Capitol into lockdown after pro-Trump rioters forced their way into Congress, forcing lawmakers to shelter in place and halting debate over the ratification (making something official) of President-elect Joe Biden’s Electoral College win. Trump supporters could be seen walking the hallways carrying flags and yelling obscenities (swear words). Hours after violence erupted at the Capitol, President Trump urged his rioting supporters to go home, while calling them "very special." And there you have it, this is the country we are living in.

Terrorists: Political violence in an asymmetrical conflict that is designed to induce terror and psychic fear through the violent victimization and destruction of noncombatant targets.
BLM supporters: Someone who supports the Black Lives Matter Movement.
